In strict confidence
My dear Russell,
I have been informed that Dr Eitel, previously to his communication to me on the 20th September last, my report of which led to the action for slander brought by Mr Hayllar against Dr Eitel, made to you circumstantially and in substance the same statements as those which are embodied in the petition of the plaintiff to the Supreme Court, which were taken from my narrative of what occurred during my meeting with Dr Eitel on the 20th September.
You would greatly oblige me if you would tell me whether or not this was the case.
Should you not have seen the petition, I can obtain a copy of it for you.
Yours very truly,
(Signed) F. Bulkeley Johnson
